Oh man, I've got to tell you about this new movie I saw. Ever since I saw a screening of it at the DorkTheatre I haven't been able to stop talking about it. Have you guys seen Repo! The Genetic Opera yet? It's a thing of beauty- a contemporary masterpiece. It's essentially a modern attempt to revive opera and it succeeds really well, though to be fair it plays more like a Grand Guignol show.
It got me really interested in opera, which is kind of strange for me. I read a comic book adaptation of Richard Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelung and it really made me want to design my own version of Brunnhilde and the Valkyries. It also reminded me that Odin is a complete and total fuckup, and I want to write some sort of poem, story or monologue to that effect. Really, opera is epic and I find its scope kind of inspiring. Everything is larger than life and makes me want to try my hand at designing something as grandiose.
The music in Repo! is wonderful and the visual landscape of that film is such fertile ground for inspiration. I imagine you'll probably be seeing tons of Blind Mag and Graverobber fanart from me in the next little while. That movie just makes me want to create something. As a matter of fact, I think I will.
